GILMOUR APPEARS ON NEW ALBUMS BY McCARTNEY, PRETTY THINGS

Pink Floyd remains dormant at last check, but guitarist David Gilmour has been keeping his guitar warm.

A new album is expected in July from Paul McCartney, with David Gilmour on guitar, according to Billboard and other sources. The yet-untitled album will consist of cover versions of classic early rock songs by Carl Perkins, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Otis Blackwell and Gene Vincent.

The album began with McCartney and Gilmour entering Abbey Road Studios in March 1999 -- reportedly at the urging of Gilmour -- to play classic covers purely for their own enjoyment, with no intent of recording an album. The results were good enough to convince McCartney it should be released. The recording was completed in early May.

Gilmour also appears on "Rage Before Beauty," a new album by The Pretty Things. The album includes "Love Keeps Hanging On," which features Gilmour on guitar. The Pretty things are Phil May on vocals, Dick Taylor on guitar, Skip Alan on Drums, John Povey providing keyboards and vocals, and Wally Waller on bass.
